The Zizzer traveled to Republic on Thursday to take on the Tigers. The Zizzers came out playing hard, but it was the Tigers who took the early lead. Just three minutes and ten seconds into the match, Bishop Davidson picked up a ball in the center of the field about 25 yards out and blasted a shot into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead. The Zizzers created several good scoring chances as did the Tigers, but the score remained 1-0. That is until the 33rd minute. The Tigers were whistled for a foul inside the 18-yard box resulting in a penalty kick for the Zizzers. Ethan Hunt took the kick and sent a perfect shot into the corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second half, the Zizzers continued to do some good things offensively, but also played better defensively. Finally, in the 57th minute, the hard work paid off. Logan Johnson sent a ball to Colton Hensley, who found Joey Block. Block headed the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead. The Zizzers had several balls that just missed going in the net, but the score remained 2-1 until the last minute of the game. Zack Dixon, standing near midfield, sent a long ball toward goal. The ball kept going high and deep and went over the goalkeeper’s head and into the goal. The Zizzers were up 3-1. That’s how things would end.
The Zizzers had a great effort from all players. They played with intensity from start to finish. They challenged balls in the air, created turnovers and played well on both sides of the ball. Logan Huff made a couple a good saves to keep things close early.
In the JV game, West Plains fell to Republic 4-2. The Zizzers took the lead on goals by Daniel Pleshka in the 1st and 8th minutes. The second goal was assisted by Dylan Tribble. But after the first 20 minutes, the Zizzers didn’t play as well as they did to start the game. Republic cut the lead to one in the 25th minute and that’s how it would stand at halftime.
In the second half, Republic scored in the 20th and 23rd minutes to take a 3-2 lead. As west Plains tried to push forward to tie the game, Republic fought back. Republic scored and insurance goal in the 33r4th minute of the half to make the score 4-2. That’s how the game would end. The Zizzers lacked consistency in their performance in this game. The effort came in waves. Mentally we have to stay focused on what we need to do in a given situation.
Next up forthe Zizzers will be games at home against Waynesville on Tuesday. JV will start at 4:30pm with the JV to follow.
